I’m delighted to be traveling back across the continent to my place of birth and very old stomping grounds of San Francisco. This time I’ll be Visiting Artist at the California College of Art Graduate Program of Fine Arts, working a bit in the Social Practice MFA Program and the Visual Art MFA Program throughout Spring 2014. The majority of my time there will be spent on my most beloved topics: history, site, and intervention. Or what you might call, “troubling timespace.”
I’m also honored to be an artist in CCA’s astonishingly intriguing collaboration with San Francisco’s FOR-SITE Foundation. Established in 2003, the FOR-SITE Foundation is dedicated to the creation, understanding, and presentation of art about place, and there will be a lot more information about that coming up soon – photos and field reports galore. Hint: it’s all about a gold mine.
Part of me thinks I’ll go back to my old haunts, but folks keep telling me that my former studio and arts space has been replaced by a google bus stop. There might still be some dynamite lying around, though, and a couple old chicken legs left over from a voodoo hex. I left San Francisco when my bodega started charging me $6.50 for a dish sponge. At least in New York I get snow.
All grumbling harangues aside, I look forward to exploring and agitating with the faculty and students of one of my very favorite institutions on earth. CCA is fabulous!
