VISITING ARTIST: California State University at Fullerton MFA / Trauma-Informed Collaborative Practice

November 17, 2020

Excited to be visiting teaching artist at California State University, Fullerton again this semester for Music Composition Department Chair, composer Pamela Madsen, and fellow visiting sound-artist, media-artist and composer Jen Kutler…discussing two topics close to both myself and Kutler – the role of trauma-informed collaborative process and practice in artmaking, and working collaboratively with transdisciplinary artists. Teaching a new generation of BFA/MFA students in the acclaimed Music Composition Program is extraordinarily moving, as they push themselves emotionally, artistically, and politically to create new work that is engaged with the trauma they continue to face with the loss of kinfolk in the California Central Valley due to Covid’s disproportionate impact on farm workers and BIPOC. It’s a joy to introduce new possibilities for them in text-image-film-libretto-collaborative transdisciplinary projects – knowledge sharing, and project seeding!
