7/7 Performances of “Charité” in Germany

We had three weeks in Munich to develop CHARITE, including a week of troubleshooting and tech to present the work in the museum galleries, with the new twist of working with projecting the film on the floor. A bit new for us on many levels, including translating the work into German, and adding a complete live score and performance script. Fieldshift Further is grateful to the City of Munich, the Jewish Museum Munich, Pasinger Fabriken, and Ebenböckhaus for the time and resources to create this work!

Initially conceived by me as a series of texts,  photographs, and films, CHARITÉ has expanded to include a deeply rewarding collaborative live performance work through Fieldshift Further, with music by Arthur Kell and choreography by Alexx Shilling.

It’s part of a suite of works about the female body in the midst and wake of human rights crimes.

In Charite, an American woman and a German woman go on a date in Berlin, and find themselves connected and separated by their medical histories. It is based upon the biosocial eugenics crimes against women at the Charite Hospital in Berlin, and other medical facilities that were part of the Aktion T4 medical killings programme.

Created by Fieldshift Further. Presented at the Jüdisches Museum München on 7 July 2013 as part of a museum exhibition of my “Sonderbauten” project. Part of my body of work Mercy Killing Aktion, supported by Creative Capital. The text for Charite was first published in Witness magazine.
