In this month’s issue of the Jewish Museum Berlin Journal, photographs from the series SONDERBAUTEN: THE SPECIAL BLOCK (exhibited at the Berlin Jewish Museum in 2013-14) are featured in a responsive essay by Verena Schneider on the role of rape as a war crime and weapon of war, the m, and the sanitization of women’s- and gendered- experiences from the histories of genocide. In particular, it responds to SONDERBAUTEN’s concerns that the “official story” of the Holocaust has not respectfully served the lives and experiences of women, and the cultural construction of women’s bodies as victimizable.
Berliners can pick up an issue of the magazine throughout the city, and online here. In German and English.
