4/16: Radio Interview about “Fieldwork” and “Out Here Death Is No Big Deal”

April 15, 2016

Tune in to the streaming radio broadcast this Saturday April 16 from 10am-12pm MST to hear me and Susan Martin of Some Serious Business interviewed on 96.9FM Kmrd-LP Madrid Community Radio‘s “PLANET JUNIPER: with Bett and Beth” in legendary Madrid, New Mexico. Livestreaming at http://www.kmrd.fm/listen

We’ll be getting into the thick about my OutHereDeathIsNoBigDeal‬ project on gender violence against indigenous women and border femicide and the iconic Lydia Lunch‘s visionary new work. I’ve been doing fieldwork in and around Madrid for a few years now on this semi-autobiographical project of texts, images, and videos, and will be good to take it to the airwaves with Some Serious Business.

I’m so appreciative of PLANET JUNIPER and KMRD’s solidarity with both mine and Lydia’s work. Check out more information on the project HERE, supported by Creative Capital, Yaddo, Theo Westenberger Estate, the Millay Colony, Some Serious Business, and many private donors and project participants.

If you feel like exploring ways to contribute to the efforts of gender violence, please consider a donation to these two shelters – on the Navajo Nation in Shiprock, New Mexico :http://homeforwomenandchildren.com/ and the Tortoise House shelter on the Tohono O’odham Nation, which can be reached at 866-666-4889. Please also explore Sing Our Rivers Red – an organization doing grassroots resistance and activism in the US as well as Canada. https://singourriversred.wordpress.com/

This is also valuable to read in order to understand just a few of the complex ways in which Tribal women and Nations are authorized by the US Government to respond to violence against women: http://www.tribal-institute.org/lists/title_ix.htm
